Monterey Chamber Business Excellence Awards — Finalist
We're a small agency in Monterey. We help local businesses compete against companies with much bigger budgets. We made the finals. We'd be honored to have your vote.

Rules sourced from the official BEA Event Info & Rules page at bea.montereychamber.comBefore the agency. Before Monterey. My son played travel hockey in Huntsville, and on his team was the son of Doug Ross, a college hockey coach who'd played on the 1976 US Olympic team. Doug wasn't a big guy. Neither were his sons. But boy, they could skate, and they could read the ice like nobody else.
One morning before a game against Atlanta, a bigger, faster team that had always beaten Huntsville, I was sitting in the lobby with my young daughter, who wanted nothing to do with the cold rink, and with Doug who wanted nothing to do with the hockey parents in the stands. Doug's son Jared walked up to his dad before taking the ice. He leaned in and said two words:
"Play Big."
Doug Ross · 1976 US Olympic Hockey Team, UAH Hockey Coach 1982-2007I asked Doug if I could use that tagline. He said of course. Jared went on to play college hockey for his dad, then the Philadelphia Flyers, then in Europe.
That became our name, our philosophy, and our entire approach to this work. To PlayBig™ is to perform beyond expectations. To not let size dictate the outcome. It's the smaller competitor who outplays, outworks, and outwits the bigger one. It's why competing against larger agencies in this category feels exactly right.
We packed up and drove from Huntsville, Alabama to Monterey in September 2020. California was shut down. Businesses had their doors closed. The typical ways you'd introduce yourself to a new community, Chamber events, coffee meetings, handshakes, were all off the table.
Monterey is a tight-knit community. It runs on trust built over years. We were unknown, arriving at the one moment in recent history when building that trust in person was nearly impossible.
So we did the only thing we could: showed up for the community anyway. Supporting local events and organizations. Clients who needed real help and got more than they asked for. Slowly, referrals started. The network grew. Six years later, we're not going anywhere.

Most small businesses have a great story. The problem is nobody can find them. Invisible in search. Website not converting. Google profile incomplete. Meanwhile a bigger competitor sits at the top of every result. That's the gap we close.
Getting clients into the map pack and keeping them there. Profiles, citations, content, authority.
Built to move visitors in the right direction. Earns trust in the first five seconds.
Google and Meta campaigns with real ROI for businesses that can't afford to waste a dollar.
We started in print. Good design and good marketing aren't separate disciplines.
We stay obsessed with what's changing so our clients don't have to.
Campaigns that connect with local audiences. Real stories. Real results.
We compete against bigger agencies every day on behalf of our clients. We've never minded being the smaller shop in the room. But we'd be honored to be recognized by the community we've spent six years building.
