We're in the Advertising, Marketing & Media Services category. Voting is open to active Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce members only. Voting ends Friday, June 26 at midnight.

One vote per Chamber member, per category Each Chamber member may cast one vote in each category. Check out all the categories to find your favorite business.
One vote per device Each vote must come from a unique computer, tablet, or phone. Two Chamber members cannot vote from the same device for the second vote to count.
One vote per network Voterfly tracks IP addresses. Multiple votes from the same internet connection will be flagged and removed automatically.

PlayBig Digital – Where the name came from

Two words before a big game.

Before the agency. Before Monterey. My son played travel hockey in Huntsville, and on his team was the son of Doug Ross, a college hockey coach who'd played on the 1976 US Olympic team. Doug wasn't a big guy. Neither were his sons. But boy, they could skate, and shoot, and they could read the ice like nobody else.

One morning before a game against Atlanta, a bigger, faster team that had always beaten Huntsville, I was sitting in the lobby with my young daughter (she wanted nothing to do with the cold rink), and Doug was with us. Doug's son Jared walked up to his dad before taking the ice. Doug leaned in, his head to Jared's helmet, and said:

"Play Big."

I asked Doug if I could use those two words. He said of course. Jared went on to play college hockey for his dad, then the Philadelphia Flyers, then in Europe.

That morning, Play Big became our business name, our philosophy, and our entire approach to work. Adapted to business, PlayBig™ is to perform beyond expectations. To not let size dictate the outcome. It's the smaller competitor who outplays, outworks, and outwits the bigger one. It's why competing against larger agencies in this category feels exactly right.

How we got here

Cross-country.
During COVID.
No map.

We packed up and drove from Huntsville, Alabama to Monterey in September 2020. California was shut down. Businesses had their doors closed. The typical ways you'd introduce yourself to a new community, Chamber events, coffee meetings, handshakes, were all off the table.

Monterey is a tight-knit community. It runs on trust built over years. We were unknown, arriving at the one moment in recent history when building that trust in person was nearly impossible.

So we did the only thing we could: showed up for the community anyway, supporting local events and organizations. Clients who needed real help got more than they asked for. Slowly, referrals started. The network grew. Six years later, we're not going anywhere.
